Health Services Dental Clinic ~
Compassion 4 Kids
supports the Blackfeet dental clinic through our
Care Package shipment program. C4K provides the
clinic with books for the children’s waiting room as
well as stuffed toys which serve as incentives for
the children’s families to bring them to the clinic
for dental care. C4K’s donated items also support
the clinic’s annual Cleft/Craniofacial program.
Eastern
Navajo Reservation, New Mexico, USA
St.
Bonaventure Indian Mission & School
The Navajo Nation covers an area of 27,000 square miles in
three southwestern states (New Mexico, Arizona and
Utah) and is larger than the state of West Virginia.
Over 200,000 people make up the Navajo Nation, and
poverty is pervasive. Unemployment is approximately
45 percent and opportunities are limited. The part
of the Eastern Navajo Reservation which St.
Bonaventure Mission serves is at the very bottom of
the economic ladder of the Navajo Nation.
St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School is a private,
Catholic agency providing the people of the Eastern
Navajo Reservation the opportunity to develop
self-sufficiency through education, employment, and
outreach services that make available food, water
and clothing and other social services. St.
Bonaventure is completely dependent upon donations
from individuals and organizations such as C4K.
Compassion 4 Kids
provides the students of St. Bonaventure with
classroom and “free reading” books and reference
materials; a myriad of sporting and physical
education equipment; and many needed school supplies
and classroom equipment items. C4K also supports
St. Bonaventure’s Navajo home repair outreach
program through significant contributions of
construction supplies such as a generator, electric
table saws, and a myriad of power and hand tools.
C4K funds have supported general operating expenses
as well as a water truck to deliver clean drinking
water to remote Navajo homes on the Reservation.
C4K volunteers, through our Humanitarian Missions Program,
travel to New Mexico to support St. Bonaventure’s
summer school program. C4K volunteer activities and
efforts focus on literacy acquisition, one of the
major concerns for these children. Additional
activities, such as arts & crafts and field trips,
focus on the social and cultural development of the
children. In addition, C4K construction teams repair
homes in remote areas of the Reservation and assist
with renovation of used mobile homes to house
homeless Navajo families.
