LOCAL OUTREACH
Compassion 4 Kids supports our local Indianapolis project partners with financial
contributions, material resources, and hands-on
volunteer support.
C4K
Student - Family Support Project ~ Indianapolis, IN,
USA
Efforts for C4K’s Student-Family Support Project are
currently focused in the Metropolitan School
District of Lawrence Township (MSDLT) in
Indianapolis, IN ~ home of C4K’s headquarters
~ with the intent to expand to additional Indiana
school districts in the future. MSDLT serves over
16,000 students from widely diverse cultural,
racial, and socio-economic backgrounds. C4K’s
Local Outreach Team creates opportunities for
linking “those who can help” with “students in
need”.
Compassion 4 Kids works closely with the township social workers to identify and to
distribute critical items and provide support to the
neediest students throughout the academic year.
Compassion 4 Kids volunteers establish community
partnerships to facilitate donation drives for new
backpacks, school supplies, and basic hygiene items
for homeless, migrant and other needy students and
their families. C4K prides itself on being
able to react promptly and efficiently to unforeseen
situations, such as meeting the needs of families
displaced to Indianapolis by Hurricane Katrina and
such “urgent needs” as arise when a student becomes
homeless, or has an immediate need for shoes or a
coat, etc. C4K also funds and spearheads
special events and projects such as a Summer Reading
Program and multicultural field trips.
The
Caring Center ~ 7147 E. 46th Street,
Indianapolis, IN, USA
The Caring Center, a volunteer-driven food and clothing
pantry, was founded by the Lawrence Police
Department Chaplain and pastor of a local
congregation, who has witnessed much disparity of
resources amongst the township’s diverse
population. The Caring Center identifies and
serves needy children and their families through a
referral program with area church pastors and the
MSDLT social workers (see Student - Family Support
Project details above). Needy families are screened
and receive food and clothing from The Caring Center
at no cost, with the focus being “a temporary hand
up… not permanent handouts”.
Compassion 4 Kids
volunteers establish community partnerships to
facilitate donation drives to support the center
with food and hygiene items on a regular basis.
Major clothing drives are conducted in the Spring
and Fall and donors are encouraged to donate gently
used apparel directly to the Center throughout the
year. In addition, Compassion 4 Kids
volunteers support the center with regular work
sessions to sort, arrange, and distribute clothing
and food at the center. C4K also assists
with special projects such as providing shelving, a
computer system, and coordinating seasonal events.
